Message by His Eminence Dr. Sunday Ola. Makinde, GPJ Prelate Methodist Church Nigeria The birth of Wesley University of Science and Technology, Ondo (WUSTO) is no doubt a dream come true and a delightful news for all Methodists in Nigeria and beyond. This is the Lord's doing, it is marvelous in our eyes. Glory be to God. Plan for the establishment of WUSTO was conceptualized with the appointment and inauguration of a Planning Committee in 1997, which had late Professor A.T.Oduyale as Chairman, and late Chief I.O.Ajijola as Secretary. The Planning Committee worked hard to set off the plans for actualization of the University. To concretize efforts of the Planning Committee, the Provisional Governing Council of the University was inaugurated in October, 2003 with a charge to "make possible the birth of the university without further delay". The Provisional Council had Sir Dr. Sam Igwe Eke as Chairman/Pro-Chancellor and Very Rev. Samuel R. Nortey as Secretary. The great and selfless sacrifice of the dedicated men and women in the council led to the birth of the University. To actualize our dream, the Provisional Council moved the Church at various meetings to place annual levies on the ministers, officers and members of the Church. This is expected to continue for the next ten years. The Church further decided that ten percent of collections made in each local Church throughout the Conference Area be remitted to the coffers of WUSTO to ensure its development and sustainability. Well meaning Methodists and friends of Methodists also made great donations for the realization of our dream. I use this opportunity to appreciate all of you good Methodists and friends of Methodist who have contributed immensely, and i pray you will continue to contribute. Your names are already in the Book of Life. Upon the granting of operating license by NUC on 17th of May 2007, I had the task of inaugurating a new Governing Council for the University on Thursday, 30th August 2007 with Sir Dr. Sam Igwe Eke still as Chairman and Pro-Chancellor. I must commend the doggedness of this worthy Methodist and his team for ensuring the take-off of the University. My appreciation also goes to Sir Bode Akindele the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the members of the board of trustees for their dedicated and selfless services. May God bless their service of love. I therefore on behalf of the proprietor, Methodist Church Nigeria, invite you all to come on board and join us to make this University a worthy and great legacy for the coming generation. May God bless you as you become one of our partners in the development of this great University which is a Center of Excellence. |
